Last evening I was watching your interview with the president and the vice-president of the Adventist World Radio and I was impressed with the marked manner by which the Lord has blessed this sacred ministry; but what impressed me the most is an anecdote you related towards the end of your interview.
A Lesson from Your Anecdote
You said that on one occasion, as you were driving, you noticed a house on fire. You stopped and alerted the dwellers of said house that their life was in serious danger. This timely intervention resulted in lives saved, including the life of an elderly woman. You used this anecdote to illustrate the fact that sometimes as we witness for the Lord a serious and louder warning must be given to those who might be unawares of the danger they are in.
That story made me wonder whether 3ABN is ready to warn the Adventist Church that our denominational house is on fire—and I am not talking about being on fire for the Lord! It is true that 3ABN and our Adventist World Radio ministries are on fire for the Lord, but I am concerned about the fact that our church in North America is in great danger of becoming morally irrelevant due to its unwillingness to stop profiting from the killing of innocent unborn babies.
Our Doctrinal Purity
Almost seven decades ago, I joined the Adventist Church because I was impressed with its doctrinal purity. I never imagined then that seven decades later I would be writing a letter as this one. What happened to our dear church? How did we manage to compromise with evil when we allowed our own hospitals to engage in the killing of innocent human beings prior to their birth for filthy profit?
You are probably aware that our church began offering abortions on demand in some of our Adventist hospital back in 1970 in violation of its own guidelines and the unmistakable injunction against murder contained in the Ten Commandments given by God himself to Moses. Some Adventists have suggested that perhaps we no longer offer abortion services in our hospitals.
The Truth About our Abortion Services
When Ted Wilson, our church president, was in Redlands, California, in February 2011, I publicly asked him about our Adventist participation in elective abortions, and he answered that now most abortions are done in abortion clinics. This was documented in the press not long ago when our church was competing against Holy Cross, a Catholic organization, for the construction of a new hospital in Maryland.
The Adventist representative argued in favor of our Health System because we do offer full health services to the public, including abortion services, while Catholics do not do this due to the moral restrictions imposed by Rome. The example cited was a clinic associated with our Shady Grove Adventist Hospital where family planning is an integral component of their services to the community. Here is a sample taken from the many stories published by the press:
“Adventist HealthCare also runs a primary-care clinic for the uninsured in Shady Grove Adventist Hospital’s Germantown emergency center. The clinic now has a pre- and post-natal department for uninsured patients that provides family planning, according to Washington Adventist Hospital’s spokeswoman Lydia Parris.
Adventist HealthCare is owned by the Seventh Day Adventist Church, which has no religious policies governing health care. Adventist hospitals perform abortions and provide a full range of reproductive care, Parris said.”
The 3ABN Undiluted Message
My question to you is: Is 3ABN sounding the alarm that our Adventist Church in the North American Division is on fire and in danger of moral collapse? If not, then could it be that we are preaching a message that has been diluted in order to hide the fact that we are complicit in the death of thousands of innocent human beings?
Someone needs to sound the alarm, but no one dares to do this. The Adventist Review is unwilling to do this, our Adventist pastors are afraid to touch this subject for fear of offending their members, and even our independent media entities like Spectrum and Adventist Today have no interest in fulfilling such a sacred duty.
I have written to you before, and you told me that you are definitely against abortion. This is not enough, in my opinion. The church will not be swayed by what you state to me in a personal letter. The leadership of the church needs to hear this publicly. No change will take place unless there is a public outcry accompanied by prayer and fasting demanding a drastic alteration in our behavior.
Doctrine Versus Behavior
Our behavior must match what we preach. In our Guidelines on Abortion, we publicly declare that our church does not condone abortions on demand. How effective is this declaration if we allow our health care institutions to violate this statement with impunity? Isn’t this what Pilate did? He ruled that Jesus was innocent of any crime, yet he condemned him to death!
Perhaps in your 3ABN programming you have included something against abortion in the past, if this is the case, can you sound the alarm a little bit louder? How about including a pro-life option in your web page request for donations. This would at least indicate that 3ABN supports the unborn’s right to life! I have suggested this in the past, but I have received no response regarding this from you.
The Moral Value of Children
Jesus said: “Let the children come to me!” How can they come to Jesus if we snuff their lives before they have had a chance to take their first breath? Our mission has been healing since its inception, how come we have dared to include killing in our program as well?
Our Loma Linda University did abandon the Hippocratic Oath and replaced it with the Phisycian’s Oath in order to make room for abortion and organ transplantation, and our church started profiting from the slaughter of the innocents three years before the abortion genocide was legalized in the U.S. mainland.
Jesus also stated that our eternal destiny will be contingent on the way we treat the “least of these.” Is there a group of human beings more deserving of the “the least of these” label than the unborn? The Bible teaches that we are responsible for those destined to the slaughter house. Are we interceding on behalf of those who can’t speak in their own defense?
Our Sacred Duty
New International Version
Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?
When Hitler was in power, we failed the moral test and compromised on the Sabbath and the sanctity of human life; we also failed the moral test in Rwanda; and we failed again when confronted with the issue of abortion in the U.S. Is this the proper way to prepare for the big test when the decree will be issued against those keeping the Sabbath holy?
My prayer is that the Lord may continue to richly bless the 3ABN ministry and that your “undiluted message” would include the defense of the unborn’s right to life. Life ‘is the most precious asset a human being possesses. No one should be allowed to deny this to those waiting to be born!
