A SSNET Comment Approved by Mistake, by Nic Samojluk

Bible 2

If you have been following the Sabbath School Lesson lately, you might have noticed the repeated references to how human traditions tend to replace and negate the clear teachings of Scripture.

Since I follow the Daily SS Lesson by Internet, I could not resist the temptation to call the readers attention to the fact that we Adventists are not immune to the practice of replacing God’s Word with humanly created tradition.

I invited readers to compare what we find in Exodus 20:13 with our Adventist “Guidelines on Abortion;” a document created specifically to alter and redefine the original meaning of the Sixth Commandment that forbids the killing of innocent human beings.

In the past, every time I posted a comment about abortion, the SSNET moderator routinely deleted it; therefore, I was greatly surprised to find out that my posting was still there intact the following day. Well, this morning I found the following message from the SSNET moderator:

“Hi Nic,

Your comment was approved by mistake. As for the abortion issue – we’re not going there on SSNET.

We have enough controversy while being in line with the official church.

Thanks for understanding.”

I responded with the following message:

“Dear brother,

Yes, we do have enough controversy in the church over minor issues like women’s ordination that do not result in the loss of life, but are avoiding what has resulted in the actual murder of innocent unborn children. Read what Ellen White said about controversy:

“The fact that there is no controversy or agitation among God’s people, should not be regarded as conclusive evidence that they are holding fast to sound doctrine. There is reason to fear that they may not be clearly discriminating between truth and error. When no new questions are started by investigation of the Scriptures, when no difference of opinion arises which will set men to searching the Bible for themselves, to make sure that they have the truth, there will be many now, as in ancient times, who will hold to tradition, and worship they know not what.”{CW 39.1}

We are blind to the fact that our church has replaced the Sixth Commandment with our own tradition. Compare God’s prohibition against killing with our “Guidelines on Abortion.” That document was designed to justify what the Lord has forbidden.

Our hands have been stained with the blood of innocent unborn children. We have begun to follow in the steps of those who shed the blood of an innocent man and rushed home to keep the Sabbath Holy. We need to repent before it is too late!

  1. Nic, what was the subject under discussion and what was your comment?

    • Hugo,

The SSNET moderator deleted my comments. It had to do with our church replacement of the Sixth Commandment with human tradition–the abortion guidelines.

    • Doug,

There was a reference to human tradition in the SSNET daily lesson and I took the opportunity to suggest that we created our own Adventist tradition when our church approved the guidelines on abortion which justify what the Bible condemns: the killing of innocent human beings through abortion.
