Invest in Life!

Financial experts recognize that one of the strongest world currencies—the Mighty Dollar—is rapidly loosing value, and they are recommending that we invest in Gold. I am not a financial expert, but based on the teachings of the Good Book, I think that we should consider following the example of Jesus Christ who chose to invest in Life instead.

He left the comforts of heaven and the adoration of millions of angels with one specific purpose—not to invest in gold or precious gems—but rather to invest in life—human life. Here is how he described his earthly mission:

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” [John 10:10]

If Jesus came that we might have life, then how can I support with my finances a church that in addition to healing has also decided to do the work of the “thief” who comes to “steal” the life of the unborn, to “kill” those waiting to be born, and to “destroy” the life only God can bestow?

When I learned that my Adventist Church had chosen to profit from abortion back in 1970, this knowledge shook my Adventist faith to its core and hurled me into a spiritual struggle. How could I continue sending my financial contribution to a church engaged in killing in addition to healing?

This led me to a drastic decision. Following the example of Ellen White who on occasion had diverted some of her tithe and offering to worthy causes, I decided that my contributions would now go to organizations who shared my views about the value of human life.

Such organizations are listed below. The first three are led by Adventists, while the rest are directed by Christians who have dedicated their lives to what Jesus came to this earth for: The protection of human life regardless of size, stage of development, or place of location. If you share my views, then perhaps you would like to follow my lead in this respect.

The Lord is eager to forgive this corporate sin that besets our church, but we must repent and stop doing evil in his sight:

“When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. …‘Come now, let us settle the matter,’ says the LORD. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.’” [Is. 1:15, 16,18]
